Consumer fraud has affected a vast group of people nowadays. Almost every day, we hear or see headlines about consumer fraud victims on the radio or on television. Consumer fraud is described as dishonest business practices that cause financial or other damages to customers. When the victims are deceived, they assume they are participating in a lawful and valid business transaction. Consumer fraud is frequently associated with misleading promises or inaccurate claims made to customers, as well as tactics that actually defraud customers of their money. Senior citizens and college students are the most frequent victims for fraudsters, but all consumers are highly susceptible to it. 

Consumer fraud has been a current issue that needs to be address. As a consequence, we must take steps to prevent many more individuals from becoming victims of consumer fraud. Giving awareness to consumers and stopping consumer fraud to happen is the thing that needs to be changed. ICT plays a key role in raising consumer fraud awareness. ICT has proven to be a critical solution to a number of major social issues because it makes it simple to connect with others who care about the same cause. Advocating about the issue of consumer fraud must be made more widely known.

WHAT IS CONSUMER FRAUD AWARENESS? 

Consumer Fraud Awareness is a social change project which makes sure that buyer or consumer is aware or informed of the information about consumer fraud. This will give them knowledge and tips on how to detect signs of fraud and how to avoid those warnings. It is an advocacy that aims to influence decisions of consumers within their buying transactions. Consumer fraud awareness is essential so that buyers may make the best choices possible.

RA 7394 is the Consumer Act of the Philippines which took effect on July 15,1992. It is the policy of the State to protect the interest of the consumer, promote his general welfare and to establish standards of conduct for business and industry.

This law is designed to prevent business that engage in fraud or specified unfair practices from gaining an advantage over competitors and provide additional protection for the weak and those unable to take care of themselves. 

This is a law that applies to all of us. We all profit from this Act because we are all consumers.
